What do you need the most?

I need money.      I need a good job.   I need a bigger house.

We all want to better ourselves, but what is our greatest need?
If you could ask God for whatever you liked, what would it be?

I think I would ask God for his forgiveness. We have all offended God in some way or another, the Bible says “There is not a just man upon earth” (Ecclesiastes ch. 7 v 20)

If you are honest with yourself, you will admit that you do not measure up to God`s standard. We have all broken His laws. The very first commandment requires us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew ch. 22 v 37) Not one of us has been able to do that.

Because we have broken God’s laws so many times he is angry with us. The Bible says “God is angry with the wicked every day” (Psalm ch. 7 v 11). This sinful, evil world is heading for the judgement of God.

If you die as a sinner you will be punished in hell. The Bible says “people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews ch. 9 v 27)

On judgement day God will say to you “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew ch. 25 v 41)

God is holy and righteous, and he must punish wrongdoers.

Today, you can ask for God’s forgiveness. This forgiveness comes, when you believe that Jesus Christ has do everything necessary to bring you to God.

The Lord Jesus Christ came to remove the punishment of sin and he did that by bearing the punishment himself.

The death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross was a murderous act, but it was also part of God’s plan to allow him to die for the sins of the world.

When the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross just outside Jerusalem 2000 years ago, He was bearing the punishment of God upon himself. He said from the cross “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Luke ch. 23 v 34).

Today we can know God’s forgiveness if we are willing to leave the path of sin and believe that the Lord Jesus Christ can forgive us.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross, he suffered the punishment we deserved.
The Bible says, “if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” (1 John ch. 1 v 9).

We can be forgiven because Jesus Christ has done everything necessary to remove our sin and put us right with God.

I think our greatest need today is to have the forgiveness of God, so that when we die and stand before Him, we will be received as those who have been forgiven and not as a sinners who deserve his punishment.
